Navy Seals Training
The Navy Seals Training at the Naval Special Warfare Centre
spreads over 30 months, at the end of which the Navy Seal is ready to do diving,
combat swimming, navigation, demolitions, weapons, and parachuting. This arduous
training makes them very tough -both physically and mentally. This helps them
to tackle future operations and missions successfully. The underlying principle
of Navy Seals Training is teamwork.
The Navy Seals Training is a voluntary one. A prospective Navy
Seal should be-
1. An active member of the US Navy,
2. A male of less than 28 years of age with good vision in both the eyes,
3. A US citizen, should pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery(ASVAB),
4. Able to clear the physical training test consisting of
(a) a 500 yards swim in less than 12.5 minutes, followed by a 10 minute rest,
(b) 42 push-ups in less than two minutes, followed by a two-minute rest,
(c) 50 sit-ups in less than two minutes followed by a two minute rest,
(d) six pull-ups, followed by a 10 minutes rest,
(e) A 1.5 miles run, in less than 11.5 minutes (wearing boots and long pants).
The Navy Seals Training begins with BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL)
spread over seven months. After the initial indoctrination phase, eight weeks
of basic conditioning, eight weeks of SCUBA training and nine weeks of land-warfare
training completes BUDS. Then three weeks of advance training, another fifteen
weeks of SEAL Qualification Training improves the basic skills and teaches new
SEAL tactics and techniques to the Navy Seal. After successfully completing
this training, trainees get their Naval Enlisted Code and SEAL Trident pin.
Hospital corpsmen get another 30 weeks of training. The Navy Seals training
in Special Reconnaissance and Direct Action covers areas like tactical ambushes,
sniper assaults, raids, close quarters combat, and underwater demolition. The
new Navy Seal immediately reports to their units for 12-18 months of extensive
training.
